Microsoft announced today that it’s adding a new ring to its Windows Insider program, which allows intrepid users to gain access to, and give feedback on, new features in Windows 10 before the general public.
The new Release Preview Ring will allow Insiders to stay with the current Windows 10 build while receiving early access to updates, application updates and driver updates.
The new ring poses less risk to devices than participating in the existing Fast and Slow rings, which release new builds to users as they’re still in development, according to Microsoft. The Fast ring, aimed at users who want to be the very first to experience new features, releases new builds as often as once a week, and they often come with bugs that will be resolved later. Updates from the Slow ring take into account feedback from Fast ring users, but still may contain issues that could interfere with the running of Windows on some devices.
The Release Preview Ring option will only be visible to users running the current Windows 10 build. If you’ve been on the Fast or Slow ring and would like to switch to the Release Preview Ring, read this post on Github for more information on how to switch from the Development Branch to the Current Branch.
