Lots of folks who have attended my talks in user groups, classes, and conferences in recent years have seen the MyComix application that I use in many of my demos. I use it to catalog my comic book collection, and also to demonstrate some very practical ASP.NET programming techniques such as the use of custom HTTP handlers to fetch images from databases. I’ve never distributed the source code (even though that’s one of the big reasons I wrote the app in the first place) because I haven’t found the time to go back and tidy up the code.
I’m about to begin rewriting MyComix for ASP.NET 2.0 and I will make the source code available as soon as it’s ready. (Promise!) I’ve written tons of ASP.NET 2.0 samples in the last 18 months, but this will be the coolest by far. I also enlisted the help of master designer Kevin Goldman to put a pretty face on MyComix 2.0. I love the design he came up with; for a sneak peek, click here.
I’ll post a notice on Wintellect’s home page the moment the download is available. When I get permission to post the Contoso Times demo that I showed at TechEd, I’ll post a notice about that, too. Both have been a long time in coming, but if you dig fun ASP.NET samples, hopefully these will be worth the wait.
