Check Out the Digital Duo

My old friend Steve Manes is at it again. He and I were columnists together years ago at PC Magazine, and when I go to Redmond during baseball season, he and I often get together and go to Mariners games. He went on to write for the New York Times, Forbes magazine, PC World, and other pubs. He also costarred in a TV series a few years ago entitled “The Digital Duo.”

The Digital Duo lives again! Check it out at http://www.pcworld.com/digitalduo/.

Not much work for me this weekend. My son’s in a soccer tournament across town, and I’ve been driving him back and forth. I have to miss church this morning because he has an 11:00 tournament game. Between games, and during the evenings, I’ve been putting the finishing touches on my revamped P-51 Mustang. Last night I completed a project I’ve been wanting to do for months: upgrade the electrical system with two switches and two batteries. Batteries sometimes fail, and when they fail in the air, the results can be disastrous. Not only do you lose your plane, you can hurt someone. Last summer, an out-of-control 1/3-scale R/C airplane in Ohio cut off a man’s leg and sliced through one of his kidneys. Two batteries and switches provide welcome redundancy, reducing by one the number of single points of failure.
