What Is Azure Site Recovery?
Azure Site Recovery (ASR) service is a cost-effective Disaster Recovery (DR) product that enables on-premises physical or virtual machines (VMs) to be replicated to Microsoft’s Azure cloud environment which can be used as a secondary data center and recovery site. ASR can protect Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware, and physical servers by coordinating and managing the ongoing replication of data.
How Atmosera Uses Azure Site Recovery
Atmosera leverages ASR for three primary use cases:
Migration:
Data Protection – Backup:
Disaster Recovery:
ASR can be effectively used to perform migrations for existing environments. This includes on-premise data centers, colocation, hosting, and other public clouds such as AWS.
Atmosera has developed processes and intellectual property to use ASR to clone existing environments in Azure without impacting existing production systems. Once the new environment has been architected in Azure, customers can easily cut over production workloads.
Atmosera helps customers backup to a public cloud and protect their business and reputation with the right backup strategy leveraging ASR. We specialize in Azure as a target for backing up data and applications.
All Atmosera customers benefit from more than technology by also getting processes, policies, training and 24x7x365 technical resources.
Atmosera gives customers options to get ahead of all events which can lead to a disaster. We provide the means to replicate current production systems using ASR. Each deployment is carefully architected to meet necessary recovery objectives.
Atmosera also maintains comprehensive documentation and set of procedures taken before, during and after a disaster.
Atmosera Managed Azure Site Recovery Service
We work with each customer to review all their data sources and current storage capabilities. This includes dealing with data in motion, data at rest and long-term archiving. All Atmosera customers benefit from processes, policies, training and 24x7x367 technical resources. Our customers have the peace of mind of knowing an industry expert has performed a thorough risk assessment, identified a remediation plan and provided ongoing audit support to ensure customers stay protected. Best of all, we understand this level of service is — and will continue to be — required year after year.
How Does Azure Site Recovery work?
Agent-Based Replication
Physical and VMs are replicated to the Azure infrastructure using agents installed on the machines and orchestrated by a configuration/management server placed in the primary environment. Replicated virtual hard drives are stored in storage accounts within an Azure Recovery Vault. These storage accounts are replicated across the Azure data center to ensure resiliency.
Meeting Compliance
Compliant environments use a pre-built virtual firewall that is brought online during a disaster event or test. Atmosera works with the customer to establish VPN connectivity to the failover environment during the implementation phase of the project so that as soon as the failover environment is online, customers are able to connect to failover VMs.
Failover and Testing
Once failover criteria are met or a test is initiated, Azure VMs matching sizes dictated by Atmosera are built and the virtual hard drives are attached and then brought online. When the time comes to failback to the primary environment, ASR replicates data back to the primary site and shuts down the failover environment, removing all failover VMs while retaining replication.
